REDUCE PLASTIC WASTE

As we are all aware of, environmental issues are becoming more serious and more threatening every day. Water Vending Machine can help our world’s environment in a very simple way. With water vending machine, we can recycle plastic bottles and we no longer need to throw away empty plastic bottles that are the major cause of pollution – we REUSE those bottles!

Plastic bottles have deadly impact on our environment. Facts are over 2,480,000 tons of plastic bottles, or over 26 billion bottles were thrown away each year (in 2008) and less than 15% were recycled. The rest ended up being trash, of which approximately ninety percent end up in landfills where they will take up to 1,000 years to biodegrade. The rest ten percent winds up in the bottom of the ocean and, because of its extremely slow decomposition rate, is likely never degrade. Even when time pass, plastic bottles break down, but do not biodegrade; instead they photodegrade, which means the materials break down to smaller fragments. These readily absorb toxins that contaminate soil, waterways, and animals upon digestion

A number of researches has shown and confirmed the facts that these thrown-away bottles have hurt our environment quite badly. They create thousands of tons of global warming pollution and other air pollution. Most bottles are made from material called polyethylene terephthalate (PET) which is a petroleum products that creates over 100 times more toxic emission than glass. As very low amount of bottles are being recycled, most bottles we find today are manufactured from virgin materials – fossil fuels. This results in producing more

greenhouse gases; as higher amount of greenhouse gases are produced when PET bottles are made of virgin material than when they are made of plastic resin or recycled material

In addition, even the transportation of these bottles also create pollution; in New York City alone, an estimated of 3,800 tons of global warming pollution was released into the atmosphere from transportation of bolted water from Europe. In California, about 2,500 tons of global warming pollution was created from shipping 18 million gallons of bottled water from Fiji (2006). To help make our world a better and greener place is easy – eliminate the source of those pollutions! In other words, STOP throwing those empty bottles away! This can be done very easily; instead of keep buying new bottled water, you reuse your old bottles to fill the purified drinking water from water vending machines! With only slight change in your water-buying habits by using water vending machines, you can create enormous change in our world’s environment.
